The driver of the semi-truck has been treated and released from the hospital.

COLLINSVILLE, IL - Illinois State Police, District 11, is currently handling a fatal crash. The crash occurred today at approximately 3:51P.M. on I-70 near Greenville (I-70 westbound mile post 40).

A red vehicle was traveling eastbound and, for unknown reasons, crossed the center median into the path of a westbound semi-truck.

At this time there are two confirmed fatalities and one injured (extent of injuries unknown).

Crash reconstruction is on scene and westbound I-70 will be closed for approximately four more hours. Eastbound traffic may be closed down for a short while due to reconstruction investigation.

Westbound traffic is being diverted onto U.S. 40 from exit 41 (Greenville) to exit 36 (Pocahontas).

The investigation is ongoing.
