Narrative:
A 49 year old pedestrian was in the middle of the roadway of Eastbound St. Clair Avenue approximately 20 feet west of 79th Street. Unit #2, a 2007 Chevrolet Pick Up truck driven by Miguel A. Lemus (age 27 from Los Angeles, CA), was traveling eastbound on St. Clair Avenue approaching 79th Street. Unit #2 struck the pedestrian, and then initially left the scene. Lemus drove Unit #2 back to the scene a short time later. Lemus stated that he initially thought that he had struck a deer, realized later that he had not, so he returned to the scene.
The pedestrian was transported by Med Star Ambulance to Belleville Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. The St. Clair County Coroner's Officer is currently attempting to make contact with the immediate family of the deceased pedestrian.
