Illinois State Police Seeks Assistance in I-255 Carjacking

COLLINSVILLE, IL – The Illinois State Police is seeking information on a carjacking that occurred on April 12, 2012 at approximately 11:48 a.m.  The incident occurred on I-255 northbound near Centreville, IL (mile post 16).

On April 12 two females were northbound on I-255 near Centreville, IL in a white 2004 Pontiac Bonneville.  While in motion, A black 2001 Jeep crashed into the rear end of the Pontiac.  Both vehicles then pulled to the side of the road.

The driver of the Pontiac, a 53-year-old female, exited her vehicle to assess the damage.  Two male suspects exited the Jeep and approached the Pontiac.  One suspect approached the driver and took her car keys.  The second suspect forcibly removed the driver’s 81-year-old mother from the front passenger seat.  The two suspects then fled in the Pontiac stealing the 81-year-old’s purse.  Two or three other suspects fled the scene in the Jeep.

The suspects are described as four or five black males in their late teens or early twenties.

The 81-year-old victim was admitted into a local hospital for treatment to injuries she sustained during the incident.

The Jeep, which had previously been reported stolen, and the Pontiac have since been recovered.

Anyone with information about the carjacking should call Special Agent Jamie Brunnworth.  S/A Brunnworth can be reached at (618)346-3524.

The investigation is ongoing.
