Narrative: Unit 1, an Alhambra/Hamel Ambulance, was responding to a
medical emergency at the Interstate 55 Southbound Rest Area at milepost 28.
Unit 1 was traveling southbound on Interstate 55, in the right lane, at
milepost 28. Unit 2 (a tractor-trailer) was traveling southbound on
Interstate 55, in the right lane, directly behind Unit 1. Unit 1 made a
sudden turn to the right, as if to attempt to exit onto the ramp that runs
from the Interstate 55 southbound Rest Area to Interstate 55 Southbound (as
if to go up the ramp the wrong way). Unit 2 struck the rear passenger side
of Unit 1, causing Unit 1 to overturn. Both drivers and both passengers (4
persons) were injured and went to Anderson Hospital in Maryville with
Laughlin Ambulance. No charges were issued.
