Illinois State Police to Use Automated Traffic Enforcement Systems in Construction Zones.

COLLINSVILLE, IL – Captain Brad Parsons, District 11 Commander, announces the use of automated traffic enforcement systems in construction zones.  Photo speed enforcement vans are currently being deployed in work zones in the Metro-East area and will continue to be throughout the construction season.

The fully marked white photo enforcement vans are equipped with the latest in photo radar technology designed to record the speed of vehicles and to capture clear images of the driver and the license plate of the offending vehicle.

The photo enforcement van will be used in work zones when workers are present.  There are no restrictions on the time of day the van will be used.  The photo speed enforcement van will be used throughout the construction season and signs will be present warning motorists of the use of the photo enforcement van.

Captain Parsons stated, “We use the photo enforcement van to help make construction zones safer for the workers and motorists traveling through the zones.”

First time offenders face a $375 fine and second time offenders face a $1,000 fine.  If the second violation occurs within two years of the first violation your driver’s license could be suspended for 90 days.  Tickets are issued by certified mail to the drivers.

Motorists are also reminded that the use of cell phones in construction zones is illegal.  When traveling through construction zones motorists should slow down, put the phone down, and pay attention to the road.
