Unit#1 was driven eastbound on I-64 approaching milepost 13. A construction crew (2 trucks)out of New Baden, Illinois, contracted by IDOT, was parked on the left shoulder at milepost 13. Jeter drove off the left side of the roadway, struck both trucks and struck the pedestrians. Three victims were taken to St. Louis University Hospital, two by ARCH helicopter and one by ambulance. A fourth victim was taked to Barnes Hospital by ambulance. Dennis Beard was later pronounced dead. Jeter was taken to Belleville Memorial Hospital
ISP Crash Reconstructionists responded to the scene to assist in the investigation. The investigation is continuing.
