Officer Involved Shooting

Three officers conducted the traffic stop not two. The third officer is an Illinois State Police Sergeant with Zone six investigations who is also assigned to Operation WAVE. NO SHOTS were fired by the ISP Sergeant.
EAST ST. LOUIS, IL - At approximately 9:45 p.m. on March 15, 2012 three officers conducted a traffic stop in the vicinity of 37th and Caseyville Ave. in East St. Louis. As officers approached the vehicle, the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed striking one of the officers. Shots were fired by two of the officers and the passenger in the vehicle was struck. The driver of the offending vehicle received minor injuries.
The officers involved in the shooting were an FBI Agent and a MEGSI (Metropolitan Enforcement Group of Southwestern Illinois) inspector with the Illinois State Police. The third officer that was on scene but did not shoot was an ISP Sergeant with Zone six investigations. All of the officers are assigned to Operation WAVE (Working Against Violent Elements).
The MEGSI inspector and both suspects were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Both the MEGSI Inspector and driver of the offending vehicle were treated and released. The driver is currently in custody at the St. Clair County Jail.
A weapon was recovered from inside the vehicle. The investigation is ongoing and is a cooperative effort between the FBI and ISP.
