ISP CRIMINAL INTERDICTION INITIATIVES RESULT IN THE SEIZURE OF DRUGS, PROPERTY & US CURRENCY

ISP Credits Partnership with Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office

Madison County – Illinois State Police (ISP) officials announce the results of multiple Criminal Interdiction Initiatives that brought Troopers from across the state to Madison County.

Since 2008 the Madison County State’s Attorney’s office has partnered with the Illinois State Police on numerous Criminal Interdiction Initiatives.  These initiatives removed illegal drugs and fugitives from Illinois roadways.

“It is vital for my office to work in partnership with local law enforcement in all areas, including our fight to stop the flow of drugs into our county.  I will mobilize every resource we have available to combat drug dealers and other dangerous criminals.  We must continue to present a united front in the fight to keep our communities free from crime,” said Madison County State’s Attorney Thomas Gibbons.  “I look forward to continuing this successful partnership.”

During the Interdiction initiatives Troopers seized more than 1,004 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of approximately $3.1M; 62 pounds of medical grade marijuana with an estimated street value of $2.8M; and $899,000 of US currency.

Additionally, motor vehicles, a utility trailer and a motor home are in the process of being seized.

“A good working relationship is essential between law enforcement and State’s Attorneys for the arrest and prosecution of criminals,” said District 11 Commander Brad Parsons.  “The support provided by Mr. Gibbons and his office during these Criminal Interdiction Initiatives strengthens that relationship and results in safer roadways and communities.” He added.

Troopers also conducted other public safety activity on the main corridors that included motorist assists, commercial motor vehicle inspections, traffic enforcement and other criminal arrests.

“Madison County State’s Attorney Thomas Gibbons was crucial in our ability to secure charges.  Without his assistance, we would not have been able to assign Troopers from across the state to conduct these Criminal Interdiction Initiatives,” Parsons stressed.
