Illinois State Police Seize Cannabis and Currency
Two separate traffic stops lead to the discovery of over $7,800 cash and
61 pounds of cannabis.
MADISON COUNTY, IL – Illinois State Police (ISP), District 11, announces results from two recent traffic stops that led to the seizure of over 61 pounds of cannabis and $7,800 cash.
On February 5, a Trooper stopped a motor home for improper lane usage on I-70 near Collinsville. Further investigation led the Trooper to believe there was criminal activity. As a precaution, an ISP K-9 was dispatched and arrived on scene. The K-9 positively alerted to the presence of an illegal substance. Five black trash bags were located and contained 61 pounds of medical grade cannabis. Arrested for cannabis trafficking was John William Milliorn, 48, of El Paso, Texas. The approximate value of the medical grade cannabis is $244,000.
Later that same day another Trooper stopped a black Ford Expedition for speeding on I-70 near Fairmont City. The Trooper detected an odor of cannabis and a search of the vehicle was conducted. The search revealed 530 grams of cannabis and $7,842 cash. Arrested for delivery of cannabis was Rafael Reyes, 29, of Elgin Texas. Reyes was also wanted on a Texas warrant for assault.
“If you’re going down the road with a large amount of pot and cash in your vehicle, it’s a good idea to drive the speed limit and stay in your lane of traffic,” said District 11 Commander, Captain Brad Parsons. “These are perfect examples of how we catch drug traffickers. We make a stop for a traffic violation, the Trooper suspects criminal activity, and he or she investigates further,” he added.
Milliorn and Reyes are both incarcerated at Madison County Jail. Bond for Milliorn is set at $300,000. Reyes’ bond is set at $75,000.
The investigations are ongoing.
THE PUBLIC IS REMINDED THAT ALL ARRESTED PERSONS ARE MERELY ACCUSED OF THE CHARGES AGAINST
THEM AND ARE PRESUMED INNOCENT UNLESS PROVEN GUILTY IN A COURT OF LAW.
