Narrative:
Unit 1, the Ford Fusion, was traveling northbound on Illinois Route 159.
Unit 2, the Pontiac Bonneville, was traveling southbound on Illinois Route
159 - approaching Unit 1. Unit 1, for unknown reasons, traveled into the
southbound lane of traffic, and sideswiped Unit 2. This caused Unit 2 to
cross over the northbound lane, and off the roadway to the east. Unit 2
struck the ditch/embankment and rolled over.
The driver of Unit 2, Karen M. Mavers, was pronounced dead on the scene by
St. Clair County Deputy Coroner Schutzenhofer. Phillips was not injured
from the crash. Both drivers, Phillips and Mavers were wearing their
seatbelts at the time of the crash. Phillips was cited for Improper Lane
Usage.
