Illinois State Police Announces Upcoming Roadside Safety Checks

COLLINSVILLE, IL – Captain Brad Parsons, District 11 Commander, announced today that the Illinois State Police may conduct Roadside Safety Checks (R.S.C) in St. Clair or Madison counties during the month of December.
 
A roadside safety check is an effective tool for generating voluntary compliance by the motoring public.  The potential to come across these checks encourages motorists to arrange designated drivers, keep their consumption of alcohol within the allowable limits, or not drive a motor vehicle after drinking.  Safety checks are designed to keep our roads safe by taking dangerous DUI offenders off the road.

Across the country, an average of one alcohol-related traffic death occurs every 45 minutes.   Alcohol and drug impairment are significant factors in over 40 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois.  Each year in Illinois, hundreds of lives are lost in alcohol-related crashes.  Don’t risk losing your license, your car, and your freedom.  If you drive impaired, law enforcement will arrest you.  

Officers working the R.S.C. will also be watchful for drivers who are operating vehicles in an unsafe manner, driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license, and transporting open alcoholic beverages.

This Roadside Safety Check is funded through a grant from the United States Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  The grant is administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.

Illinois State Police Announce Results of Alcohol Countermeasure
Enforcement Surveillance Details

Collinsville IL ? Illinois State Police Zone 6 officers conducted Alcohol
Countermeasure Enforcement (ACE) surveillance at various establishments
during the evening hours of Friday, November 9, 2012, in Madison County.
The purpose of these ACE details is to determine which businesses may be
selling alcoholic beverages to minors (persons under 21 years of age).
A total of 26 locations were surveyed in Alton, Bethalto, Cottage
Hills, Wood River, East Alton, and Hartford. Of those businesses; Casey?s
General Store, 2517 Washington Ave., Alton and Casey?s General Store, 331
E. Edwardsville Rd., Wood River, were involved in the sale of an alcoholic
beverage to a minor. Store employees Nathan K. Shawback, and Jeffrey L.
Trimm, were arrested for Unlawful Delivery of Alcoholic Liquor to a Minor,
a Class A misdemeanor. All were released pending a notice to appear in
court. The public is reminded that charges are merely accusations and
all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty. This project
was funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of
Traffic Safety.

Narrative:
Unit 1 was traveling westbound on Interstate 64, and exited onto the
Illinois Route 111 exit ramp. Unit #1 lost control, went off of the
roadway to the left, and overturned several times. The driver of Unit #1
was not wearing her seat belt, and was ejected from the vehicle. The
driver was Susan R. McCloud, Age 50, from Caseyville, IL. She was
transported to St. Louis University Hospital via Medstar EMS, where she was
later pronounced dead. There were no other vehicles or people involved in
this crash.

Narrative:

driver was an unknown white female, who appeared to be approximately 50
years of age. She was transported to St. Louis University Hospital via
Medstar EMS, where she was later pronounced dead. Possible family members
will be meeting with the Medical Examiner today to attempt to positively
identify the body.

Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Alert

Car Crashes into Rear of Illinois State Police Patrol Motorcycle

WHAT:                        Personal Injury Crash, Crash 11-12-2349,

WHERE:                 IL Rt. 4 just north of East Wesley Street in Lebanon.  

WHEN:                        October 30, 2012, 11:36 a.m.

VEHICLES:                Unit one: White 2004 Toyota Corolla.
                        Unit two: Illinois State Police patrol motorcycle.

DRIVERS:                Unit one: Mr. Jonathon R. Porter, age 24, of St. Louis MO.
                        Unit two: Illinois State Police Trooper (five year veteran) assigned to District 11 (Collinsville).

SEATBELTS:                Mr. Porter was wearing his seat belt and the Trooper was wearing a helmet.

CAUSE:                Mr. Porter failed to reduce his speed.        
       
TRANSPORTS:                Medstar Ambulance transported the Trooper to St. Louis University Hospital.

CONDITIONS:                The Trooper was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and has been released.  Mr. Porter was not injured.

PRELIMINARY:         An Illinois State Police (ISP) patrol motorcycle was traveling north on Illinois Route 4 in Lebanon.  A dump truck had also been traveling north on Illinois Route 4 ahead of the motorcycle.  The dump truck pulled into the southbound lane and stopped approximately 250 feet north of East Wesley Street.  The dump truck then attempted to back into a private drive on the west side of Illinois Route 4.  The ISP motorcycle came to a stop in the northbound lane, just south of the dump truck.  The Toyota was unable to stop in time and rear ended the ISP motorcycle.

CHARGES:                Mr. Porter was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid and accident and operation of a motor vehicle with no valid registration.

All people are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Illinois State Police Announce Special Traffic Enforcement Patrols

COLLINSVILLE, IL – Captain Brad Parsons, District 11 Commander, announced today that the Illinois State Police (ISP) will conduct special Traffic Enforcement Patrols (sTEP) in St. Clair or Madison County during the month of November.  

The sTEP program involves a combination of increased enforcement and public information designed to raise public awareness and compliance to all traffic laws.  District 11 Troopers will concentrate on speeding, failure to use occupant restraints, and other driving offenses as part of their enforcement efforts.  Speeding is a contributing factor in 31 percent of all fatal crashes nationwide.  In Illinois, speed-related crashes account for 37 percent of all traffic fatalities.  

Safety Belt Enforcement Zones may also be used during the sTEP program.  Troopers will enforce the primary safety belt law to ensure drivers and all of their passengers are buckled up.  

Every hour someone dies in America simply because they are not wearing their safety belt.  Statistics show that half of all people killed in traffic crashes are not properly buckled up.  You can save your life by driving safely and simply buckling up.

COLLINSVILLE, IL – Captain Brad Parsons, District 11 Commander, announced today that the Illinois State Police (ISP) will conduct Nighttime Enforcement Patrols (NITE) in St. Clair or Madison County during the month of November.

Officers working NITE patrols will be watchful for drivers who are operating vehicles in an unsafe manner, driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license, transporting open alcoholic beverages, not properly buckled up and driving under the influence.

Alcohol and drug impairment is a significant factor in over 40 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois.  The ISP has zero tolerance for impaired drivers.  If you drive drunk, you will be arrested.

These nighttime patrols are designed to keep our roads safe by taking dangerous DUI offenders off the road and ensuring all vehicle occupants are buckled up.

Illinois State Police to Conduct Occupant Restraint Enforcement Patrols

COLLINSVILLE, IL – Captain Brad Parsons, District 11 Commander, announced today that the Illinois State Police (ISP) will conduct Occupant Restraint Enforcement Patrols (OREP) in St. Clair or Madison County during the month of November.  

OREP allows the ISP to target an area with saturation patrols that focus on traffic violations and related compliance with safety belt and child safety seat laws.  Safety belt enforcement zones will also be set up to ensure the driver and passengers are buckled up.  Beginning January 1, 2012, Illinois law requires all vehicle passengers (front and back) to be buckled up!

Safety belts are one of the most effective safety devices in vehicles today, estimated to save over 16,000 lives each year.  Over half of vehicle occupants killed in a traffic crash were not properly buckled up.  

The objective of this program is to increase compliance of occupant restraint laws through education, child seat inspections, and enforcement.  Greater awareness, acceptance, and use of occupant protection equipment will save many lives.
